It ALWAYS starts on Madhouse Monday!!! A Teacher’s Most Feared Words…
Monday we had faculty meeting… same O’ same O’. We talked about the end of quarter tests. We discussed the security procedures for those tests. A few other announcements were made… And then, it happened. Our principal stood before us as he often does and announces we will be loosing units – as he does every year. Well, being tenured, I pay little attention to this announcement.
Two days later, I’m talking to my principal and, I can tell, he’s buttering me up! However, I saw the red flags a little too late and there wasn’t anytime to run! “I think I’m going to need you to move back to 7th grade.” (mouth open) “We need a strong teacher with our 7th graders and you’ve always done really well in 7th grade.” DARN IT! I love 8th grade! The students are more mature. There are fewer fights. The material is easier for the students and therefore easier on me… I have been bummed all day because of a teacher’s most feared words… 🙁
When I got home, my husband in all of his wisdom says, “Well, you’ll be fine”. Duuuuuhhhh! But I love my teaching partner, I love 8th graders, and I don’t want to move. Oh, I forgot. This also means I have to move my classroom again (I think this is my biggest disappointment.)
I guess my principal did throw me a bone… He said if he could find a strong math teacher to teach 7th grade, he would leave me in 8th grade. Now it’s just a wait and see game – at least I have all the 7th grade materials I need and I’ve taught 7th grade for 13 years… It will all be ok…
Is anyone looking for a job? I’ve got one you can have 🙂
Have a great weekend!
